There are lots of changes happening this year, and Sunshine is going to make a fresh start, too. My vision is for Sunshine to make Welcome Wagon our “extended
neighborhood”. So, whether you are a seasoned veteran or brand
new to the organization, I hope you will be able to help us out this year.
What it is : The Sunshine committee brings meals to our members in need of our
support. In most cases, there is a birth, a loss, or a medical issue in the family, which has significantly disrupted
the normal routine.
How it works : First, someone calls me to report the situation. In most cases
I receive a call from a member who is a friend of the family, but please do not hesitate to call me if it is your family in
need.
Second, I call members to see who is available to cook for the family. I will be starting
with members whose name begins with the same letter as the family. So, if Jane Smith’s family needs a meal, I
will begin my calls with the letter “S” and proceed through the membership list. EVERYONE
is on my call list by default. Once you have cooked a meal, I will take you off my list for the year unless
you specifically tell me you are interested in helping again.
Third, the “cooking member” calls the family in need directly to set up a
time and discuss any possible food allergies, etc. While it may seem uncomfortable if you do not know the person, this
is a really nice opportunity to meet someone in your “neighborhood”. If you need any help, I am here to
make sure everything runs smoothly.
Finally, the “cooking member” delivers the meal to the family at the agreed
upon time. Whether you have met the person before or not, I hope Sunshine will help build
new connections between our members.
